Vibrant Harmony Digital art created on canvas. August 5, 2024. Afrika Abney

Vibrant Harmony is an exquisite abstract painting that truly stands out with its captivating blend of colors, primarily showcasing a rich interplay of purple and orange. The background features a masterful fusion of these two hues, where the deep, calming purples create a tranquil foundation, while the bright, fiery oranges inject a sense of warmth and energy. This striking contrast not only draws the eye but also evokes a profound emotional response, inviting viewers to delve into the depths of creativity and passion that the artwork embodies. It's a piece that resonates with anyone who appreciates the beauty of color and the emotions they can evoke.

The composition of Vibrant Harmony is thoughtfully designed to guide the viewer's gaze across the canvas. The rich purples provide a deep, calming backdrop that is beautifully complemented by the bright, fiery oranges. This dynamic combination generates a sense of movement and fluidity, as if the colors are dancing together in a celebration of artistic expression. Each brushstroke seems to tell a story, inviting the observer to interpret the emotions and ideas behind the vibrant hues. It's not just a painting; it's an experience that encourages reflection and imagination.

As a statement piece, it not only enhances the visual landscape of a room but also serves as a catalyst for conversations about creativity, innovation, and the importance of embracing diverse perspectives in both art and life.

Profound Blue Inspiration

Good morning, I woke up a couple hours ago with dark colors floating within my mind from my restful sleep. “The backdrop of the predominant shade in my thoughts is a profound, rich blue that exudes a sense of creativity and sophistication. The intensity of the dark blue not only captures attention but also evokes feelings of calmness and focus. The concept of sophistication in abstract art encompasses a rich tapestry of ideas and techniques that elevate the genre beyond mere visual appeal. It involves a deep understanding of color theory, composition, and the emotional resonance of shapes and forms. The essence of creativity in abstract art lies in its ability to challenge conventional artistic norms and provoke thought that often utilize a variety of techniques, such as layering, gestural brushwork, and the interplay of light and shadow, to create dynamic compositions that captivate the viewer's attention. This freedom of expression not only reflects inner thoughts a...

Insightful Reflections

Insightful Reflections. Digital art created on canvas. September 10, 2024. Afrika Abney My reflections on politics often evoke a palette of somber hues. I perceive political involvement as fundamentally linked to the ideals of integrity and a dedication to the welfare of the community. It is imperative that honesty remains at the forefront of political endeavors, as it serves not only as a moral principle but also as a crucial element in building trust with the electorate. Without this trust, the very fabric of democratic engagement begins to fray, undermining the relationship between leaders and the people they represent.

Passionate about stimulating conversations

Quote found on the Internet “A stimulating conversation is one that causes interest and enthusiasm. Here are some tips for having a stimulating conversation: Ask questions: Ask open-ended questions that encourage people to share their thoughts and feelings. For example, you could ask about their dreams, values, or what excites them. Listen: Listen actively and remember key points. Be intentional: Write down or verbalize your intentions before the conversation. Be humble: Let people introduce themselves and value their time. Be diverse: Use analogies and metaphors, and try to relate to others.” Passionate about stimulating conversations, I focus on the following topics: abstract art, poetry, and black authors, steering clear of divisive topics like politics, racism, discrimination, gun violence, and crime in Washington, D.C. I aim to inspire creativity and intellectual exploration through engaging conversations. My expertise in abstract art has led to successful exhibitions and strong...

Working in Museums/Galleries

I had the opportunity to work in many museums and art galleries in the past. Some of them include: The New Harlem Gallery (1992-1993) and the Phillips Collection (2000). Additionally, I provided services for the Anacostia Art Gallery and Boutique from 2010 – 2011 and I have exhibited my artwork  widely throughout the East Coast at such places as Emma Mae Gallery (Washington, DC), The New Harlem Gallery (New York City, New York), Wisteria ArtSpace (New York City, New York), Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), Market 5 Gallery (Washington, DC), and The Phillips Collection (Washington, DC). I believe that working in a museum and gallery as a professional visual artist is both inspirational and frustrating. “Most museum people will tell you that they love their jobs. Some especially enjoy working with the public. They enjoy giving programs, explaining exhibits, and answering questions. ...
