Cultural Spectrum

My enthusiasm is deeply rooted in the art-making process, which provides me with a platform to convey my distinct viewpoint and life experiences. Being a Black American, I find profound inspiration in my cultural background and the diverse stories that contribute to my sense of self. This ongoing commitment to my artistic practice not only ignites my imagination but also acts as a bridge to connect with others, promoting conversation and empathy through the medium of visual art.

The act of creating art is a significant passion of mine, enabling me to articulate my individual insights and personal journey. As a Black American, I am influenced by my cultural lineage and the myriad of narratives that inform my identity. This persistent dedication to my craft not only enhances my creative expression but also facilitates connections with a wider audience, encouraging meaningful exchanges and a deeper understanding through the power of visual storytelling.

Engaging in the creation of art is a profound passion that allows me to share my unique perspective and life experiences with the world. As a Black American, my cultural heritage serves as a wellspring of inspiration, enriched by the complex narratives that define who I am. This continual involvement in my artistic endeavors not only stimulates my creativity but also provides a valuable opportunity to engage with others, fostering dialogue and promoting understanding through the art of visual communication.

Cultural Spectrum serves as a visual representation of my identity as a Black American. Through this artwork, I aim to encapsulate the multifaceted nature of my experiences and heritage. The choice of colors is intentional, reflecting the vibrant dynamics that characterize my journey and the broader narrative of Black American culture.

"Cultural Spectrum," conveys the depth and richness of my identity as a Black American. The painting is not merely an aesthetic endeavor; it is a profound exploration of the various elements that shape my existence. Each hue and shade is carefully selected to symbolize the complexities and nuances of my cultural background, illustrating how these factors intertwine to form a unique personal narrative.

This piece, "Cultural Spectrum," stands as a testament to the diverse influences that inform my identity as a Black American. The interplay of colors within the painting mirrors the dynamic experiences and emotions that I navigate daily.

By translating these elements into a digital format, I hope to foster a deeper understanding of the cultural spectrum that defines not only my life but also the collective experience of Black Americans.

Between the ages of 8 and 39, I spent a significant portion of my life at Malcolm X Park, from 1984 until 2015. This park served as a backdrop for my formative years, where I engaged in various activities and experiences that shaped my development. However, since my departure from the park in 2015, I have not offered any services or participated in any events related to it. https://msafrikaabney.weebly.com/malcolm-x-park-dc-drum-and-dance-circle.html

Professional Positivity

Professional Positivity. Digital art created on canvas. September 23, 2024. Afrika Abney “Humor that is intended to lighten the atmosphere during work can often miss the mark for me. Instead of providing a welcome distraction, such jokes can come across as disrespectful and inappropriate in a professional setting. I believe that humor should enhance the workplace experience, not detract from it or undermine the seriousness of my work. When jokes are presented in a way that seems to trivialize the work environment, they fail to resonate with me. I find that humor should foster camaraderie and positivity, but when it crosses the line into disrespect, it loses its appeal. It is essential to maintain a level of professionalism. Ultimately, I do not appreciate humor that is veiled as lightheartedness if it carries an undertone of disrespect.”

Navy Reflections, digital art created on canvas

Prior to embarking on the creation of my abstract digital paintings on canvas through the use of advanced software, I begin by providing a thorough explanation of the basic digital canvas. This foundational step is crucial as it sets the stage for the artistic process, allowing me to articulate the characteristics and functionalities of the digital medium. Understanding the digital canvas is essential for effectively manipulating the tools and features that will ultimately shape the artwork. Once I have established a clear understanding of the digital canvas, I proceed to the selection of colors and brushes. This phase is integral to my creative process, as the choice of colors can significantly influence the mood and emotional resonance of the painting. I carefully consider the palette, ensuring that it aligns with the vision I have for the piece. Additionally, I select the appropriate brushes that will allow me to achieve the desired textures and effects, enhancing the overall depth...
