Digital Landscape

“The term "digital landscape" encompasses the online ecosystem in which individuals engage in communication, seek out information, and enjoy various forms of entertainment. This environment comprises a variety of elements, including digital platforms, websites, e-commerce sites, social media networks, and mobile applications. Additionally, it incorporates tools and services such as email, websites, personal computers, smartphones, video content, and blog entries, all of which contribute to the rich tapestry of digital interaction and consumption.”

The discourse surrounding digital art and digital marketing has gained significant traction in recent years, reflecting the evolving landscape of creative expression and promotional strategies in the digital age. Digital art, in particular, stands out for its reduced environmental impact when compared to traditional artistic methods. By eliminating the necessity for physical materials such as paper, canvas, and paint, digital artists can engage in a more sustainable practice. The term "digital art" encompasses a wide range of creative outputs facilitated by software, computers, or electronic devices, allowing artists to push the boundaries of their creativity. This medium has opened up new avenues for artistic exploration, including augmented reality exhibitions and virtual reality installations, which further enhance the viewer's experience.

My journey into digital art has been enriched by the use of various digital painting software, each offering unique features that enhance my creative process. Notable among these are Paint, introduced in November 1985, Freshpaint, which debuted on May 25, 2012, and Medibang, released on June 26, 2015. These tools provide a diverse array of brush selections, color palettes, and surface textures, enabling me to experiment and refine my artistic style. Through the use of these digital platforms, I have produced a multitude of abstract paintings, which I often utilize for self-promotion. Although my foray into digital art began years after my childhood in 1980, the evolution of my skills has been significantly influenced by the capabilities offered by these software programs.

In the realm of digital marketing, the term encompasses a broad spectrum of marketing activities, with social media marketing being a prominent subset that focuses on leveraging social media platforms for promotional purposes. As a consultant, I specialize in utilizing these platforms to disseminate information about my services and expertise. This approach not only allows me to connect with a wider audience but also enables me to engage with potential clients in a more interactive and dynamic manner. By harnessing the power of digital marketing, I can effectively showcase my skills and build a professional presence that resonates with my target demographic, ultimately driving growth and opportunities in my consulting practice.

Digital art

“Digital art has a smaller environmental footprint compared to traditional art mediums, as it eliminates the need for physical materials such as paper, canvas, and paint. By embracing digital tools, artists can contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly creative ecosystem. It encompasses so many different avenues, it can be hard to break the definition down into something simple, but for our purposes, the definition of digital art is: Art made using or facilitated by software, computers, or other electronic devices. Digital art has enabled artists to unearth their creativity further. Artists can advance their work and improve their talent through new materials, mediums and techniques. Digital art has expanded the possibilities through augmented reality exhibitions and virtual reality installations, among other avenues.”

I have used several digital paint softwares to implement my digital art. Among them include Paint which was released in November 1985, Freshpaint which was released on May 25, 2012; and Medibang which was released on June 26, 2015. Each of these digital paint softwares provides me with the opportunity to explore the brush selections, colors and surface textures available.

I have created numerous digital abstract paintings on canvas. I frequently use my digital abstract paintings for self promotional purposes. In 1980, I was 4 years old and did not start creating digital art until years later.

Digital leaf Symphony. Digital art created on canvas. August 9, 2024. Afrika Abney

Digital Leaf Symphony - This title suggests a harmonious arrangement of leaves in a digital format, akin to a symphony of colors and shapes coming together.

This piece features an abstract background adorned with a vibrant array of leaves in various colors, including rich reds, sunny yellows, and deep greens. The artwork is a testament to the beauty of nature, reimagined through the lens of digital technology. Each leaf is meticulously crafted, showcasing the artist's skill in blending traditional watercolor techniques with modern digital tools, resulting in a visually stunning composition that invites viewers to explore the intricate details and harmonious color palette.

The creation of "Digital Leaf Symphony" utilized Medibang, a powerful digital art software that has been a favorite among artists since its release in 2015. I employed a watercolor digital brush to achieve a fluid and organic feel, reminiscent of traditional painting methods. The leaves, while abstract, evoke a sense of movement and life, as if they are dancing in a gentle breeze. This artwork not only celebrates the natural world but also reflects the technological advancements that have allowed artists to express their creativity in new and innovative ways, particularly during the challenging times of the pandemic.

"Digital Leaf Symphony" serves as a poignant reminder of the intersection between nature and technology, illustrating how digital art can capture the essence of the organic world. The vibrant colors and abstract forms create a symphony of visual elements that resonate with viewers on multiple levels.

Why Work with Women and Girls?

" As women, we have been taught to always compete with each other and compare ourselves on the basis of the way we look and act. Working with each other closely kills that way of thinking, empowers us and helps us create together in an environment that we feel safe in." Therefore, working with women and girls not helps me to empower them to feel good about themselves, but to heal themselves from trauma and other experiences that they may encountered. Organizations such as Esther Productions, Inc and the African American Women's Resource Center allowed me to work with a diverse set of women and girls from different backgrounds and sexual orientation beliefs.  In 2004, I began to work with Esther Productions, Inc and from 2017 - 2018, I provided services for the African American Women's Resource Center.  Esther Productions, Inc. is dedicated to using a variety of vehicles—traditional and nontraditional—to develop communities throughout the United States and Europ...

Professionalism

“Professionalism is essential for success in the workplace, incorporating dedication, integrity, and responsibility. It involves how you present yourself, your attitude, and communication skills. Professionalism can lead to a positive first impression, strong relationships, and a good reputation.” Gray 1 - 2. Digital art created on canvas. 2022. Afrika Abney “Gray displays a strong sense of individualism, independence, and self-motivation.Gray is a neutral color that is a mix of black and white, and is also known as gray. Gray color also conveys professionalism, calmness, and sophistication, so it's an excellent choice! It is achromatic, meaning it has no hue or chroma and technically has no color, so it doesn't appear on the color wheel. Gray's neutrality makes it versatile and allows it to be combined with other colors. For example, it can be paired with pale colors for a calm palette, or with warm, dark colors like burnt orange for a more energetic feel.” I created this...

Peacock

“The female peacock, also known as a peahen, can also represent inner beauty and self-love. Beauty: Peacocks' iridescent feathers can symbolize external beauty and capture attention. However, peacocks can also remind us that true beauty comes from within, and that nurturing our souls can enhance our outer appearance. Self-love: Peacocks can represent the importance of self-love and acceptance.” “Important qualities in the workplace include self-expression, optimism, individuality, personal reflection, being observant, and passionate. Self-expression can foster inclusivity and empowerment. Optimism involves expecting positive outcomes and growth. Individuality means bringing your whole self to work or fostering an individualist culture. Self-reflection aids personal and professional growth. Being observant helps notice details others may miss. Passion in the workplace involves finding meaning and approaching work with focus.” Dynamic and passionate individual with a strong focus on...
