PROFESSIONAL POETRY EXPERIENCES SUMMARY
Ms. Afrika Abney has worked as a poet at various establishments including Starbucks in Chinatown, DC, Dar Es Salaam Bookstore, DC Sanctuary, Islander, Market 5 Gallery, and Bossa Bistro Lounge. "The job responsibilities of a poet include observing and reflecting on the world around them, expressing themselves honestly, challenging and inspiring readers, using language effectively, being socially and culturally aware, and continuing to learn and grow as writers. Poets should be keen observers of human nature, society, politics, and the natural world, using their observations to create meaningful and thought-provoking poetry. They have a responsibility to use their poetry to address issues of social justice, inequality, and other important societal issues, while also seeking feedback and criticism to improve their craft."
