On Petite Women

" You don't need to be 'petite' to be beautiful. Being 'curvy' doesn't mean your 'fat.'"- Unknown "When people meet me in person, they're usually surprised at how petite I am because there's just [an] idea that because I'm black I just look a certain way.-" Misty Copeland   There are many petite women that know me and that I have met many years ago. Some of them include: Akua Akoto Afia Akoto Kadiatou Conte Dr. Berryman-Johnson Dr. Hazel Harper Carlo Perlo Sylvia Soumah Maria Tukeva Kathryn Larkin Elizabeth Thompson Brittany Rytter Debbie Pridgen Oni Faida Eloise Greenfield Now, what is the point of picking on petite women? Are you attracted to petite women? Or do you just like harassing them? Try to get to know the person before passing quick judgements. Personally, as a petite women for over 20 years, I am tired of people picking on me because of my height. I am more than my height and s...

The Masks That I wear

The Masks That I wear have represented who I am as an African American female and woman. I have worn many types of masks from dance customs to paper masks. Each of the masks that I have worn represent a different part of my character, background and personality.  "All of us have ways in which we mask and cover our pain." - Iyanla Vanzant  "Because the mask is your face, the face is a mask, so I'm thinking of the face as a mask because of the way I see faces is coming from an African vision of the mask which is the thing that we carry around with us, it is our presentation, it's our front, it's our face." - Faith Ringgold                                   The Masks That I wear. My Middle School Year Experiences

In 1989, I was 13. I often was bullied when I was a middle school student at NationHouse. As a middle school student, I was petite, statics of father absence, had an Afrocentric name, and was asked what I wanted to be.  Each of these experiences in some form or another created trauma and were painful for me. Despite these experiences, I continued to develop my career goals. One of the photos of me when I was a middle school student at NationHouse. 1989. (Park Road NW Washington, DC) Please note that I do not have this outfit.

Mask Requirements

Since 2020, I have been wearing masks as a result of the COVID rules and restrictions                                                                            placed by Mayor Muriel Bowser. I will continue to be cautious as the mask mandates have been lifted. I will do what is best for me and going maskless, I do not think is a wise idea. As mask requirements are still in place.                                                                   Photo courtesy of Mayor Muriel Bowser ...
