Brightwood Washington, DC

For the past 8 years, I have been actively involved more frequently in the Brightwood Area. In fact, I worked at Center City Brightwood Campus in 2013 when I served as a Reading Tutor. I have also disseminated numerous flyers in the area from 2018 - 2019 and again from August 2023 - October 2023.

"Brightwood is one of DC's oldest upper NW neighborhoods. Founded as White Mill Seat in 1756, then Peter's Mill Seat, to Crystal Springs, then to Brighton around 1860, the neighborhood was primarily farmland and a haven for freed slaves."

Djimo Kouyate

Djimo Kouyate was from the Malinké tribe, a sub-group of the Mandingo people. Born in Tambacounda, Senegal, he was from a distinguished family of griots who trace their ancestry back to the thirteenth century. A master kora player and a fine singer and dancer, Djimo also played a variety of other instruments including balafon (wooden xylophone), drums, and other string instruments. He worked with the Senegalese National Ballet as a singer and dancer since 1960, and was a founding member of the National Instrumental Ensemble of Senegal."
