Ms. Joy Jones (trainer, performance poet, playwright and author of several books including Private Lessons: A Book of Meditations for Teachers; Tambourine Moon, which was selected as one of the best books for children by the black caucus of the ALA and seen on Fox TV’s hit show The Bernie Mac Show; Private Lessons:A Book of Meditations for Teachers (Andrews McMeel);Fearless Public Speaking (SparkNotes), Jayla Jumps In (Albert Whitman & Company, 2020 and Black Caucus of the American Library Association BCALA, 2020 Best of the Best Booklist); and Between Black Women: Listening with the Third Ear (African American Images) will talk about her journey becoming a children's author. 


"From the Diary of A Negro Volunteer: How Eugene E. Miller became E. Ethelbert Miller during the DC Years of our Lord 1968-1976.”

This the title of E. Miller's presentation. Mr. Miller (memoirist, award-winning poet and 2022 Grammy nominee for the Best Spoken Word Poetry Album--Black Men Are Precious, and author of several books) at Cleveland Park Library on April 20th for the event entitled: SEEING OURSELVES IN THE RIVER, IN THE MIRROR, IN THE WORLD: African Americans and Children's Literature On Tour.

"In small and important ways Black authors of children's literature have fortified, energized and empowered African Americans, making it possible with words and images for us to see ourselves--our authentic selves--and to believe in our abilities to change and lead the world in which we live. That contribution has been under-appreciated. SEEING OURSELVES IN THE RIVER, IN THE MIRROR, IN THE WORLD seeks to make clear the power of children's authors, the power of Black writers. "

Creative Journey

   The days of traditional office environments are behind me. Now, I find myself thriving in a home-based workspace, where I am fully committed to my profession as a consultant. At present, I am channeling my efforts into an exciting project for MidnightRose: A Reading Series of Poetry & Prose, which is scheduled to take place on September 14, 2024, at the Tenley Library which I began on August 12, 2024.. This captivating event promises to unfold from 2 PM to 4 PM, providing attendees with a unique chance to dive deep into the enchanting realms of poetry and prose. Red represents determination, courage, resilience, and creativity.  According to my research, “layered brushstrokes serve as a powerful representation of the different phases of artistic expression and emotional depth. Each stroke adds a unique texture and dimension, reflecting my evolving thoughts and feelings throughout the creative process.
